RIUH which kicked off on 19th & 20th August 2017 returns to celebrate the Malaysia Day weekend at APW, Jalan Riong Bangsar. RIUH is a creative platform that hosts a curation of eclectic homegrown brands, local and international flavours to feast on, creative workshops, showcases and live performances.
Taking cues from Covent Garden in London, Finders Keepers in Australia, Knack Market in Bangkok, Brightspot Market and Indoestri in Indonesia and Public Garden in Singapore, RIUH aims to put Kuala Lumpur on the creative map – timely, to further enhance the creative industry in Malaysia.
It provides a platform for the local creative industry to showcase their products and flaunt their talent as well as for the community and visitors to KL to discover a spectrum of creative offerings. RIUH also hosts workshops and activities for the kids – as the Malay proverb goes - melentur rebung biarlah dari rebungnya (start cultivating good values at an early age).
In September, visitors would expect a variety of pop-up stores from fashion brands for men, women and kids, homeware and artisanal produce to dishes and snacks that would curb the hunger pangs. As part of the many special offerings under RIUH, visitors can checkout The Rojak Chapters, a visual art exhibition by Eunice Martin Lim, a visual artist and an award winning Food Influencer, entertained by Fusion Wayang Kulit, a movement aimed at reviving the art of wayang kulit fused with contemporary elements, in the spirit of Malaysia Day, sway with the traditional dancers of Anak Seni (Asia) Production and relax with the tunes of young local musicians, Kita:orang and Bai. Also, Meruked – a band from Kuching, Sarawak will perform the sounds of Borneo by fusing the intricacies of ambient music, highlighting the traditional sape.
There are workshops for kids and adults – Wayang Kulit puppet making by Fusion Wayang Kulit, Shibori Dyeing and Printing by Shaqila Ramli and Woodcutting & Printmaking by Rico Leong in collaboration with RekaNegaraku.
In celebration of Malaysia and her love for food, RIUH will give a feast to the taste buds as it brings visitors an array of Malaysian food, ranging from kolo mee to nasi dagang. Not forgetting the Nasi Lemak Burger Agak Agak RIUH – an exclusive collaboration between RIUH and Agak Agak - a modern Malaysian restaurant that serves up local dishes with an edge, which was introduced in RIUH’s August weekend.
