Levi’s® Malaysia is amping up the local music scene with their second iteration of Levi’s® Music Project, a community-based music platform that nurtures, supports and ultimately, empowers the next generation of young artists.
In 2020, nusantara rock quintet Margastawa came up on top for Levi’s® Music Project. They battled it out with finalists such as Alien Lipstick Fire, Dato’ Maw and MAYABAYU in a virtual showcase for a shot at a music video grant worth RM20,000. Now, to echo the global launch of Levi’s® Music Project led by highly-acclaimed R&B star Khalid, Levi’s® Malaysia has partnered up with our very own homegrown pop ingenue, Yuna.
In case you missed it, here is a brief recap of what went down.
For the latest chapter of a brand new digital and social-first Levi’s® Music Project, aspiring young artists are invited to put their spin on Yuna’s “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching”. The Yuna Remix Challenge took place last December, bringing together producers and musicians from all genres as they experimented and added their unique imprint to the track “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching”.
10 lucky winners were announced on the 12th of January for an up close and personal workshop on Discord with none other than the songstress herself, along with a panel of subject matter experts such as local music industry veteran Jenn Thompson or fondly known as Kak Jenn, Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia Kim Lim and certified hitmaker Mike Chan.
Among the selected winners are singer-songwriter prodigy, helloluqman, up-and-coming synth-pop band Late Night Frequency and Malaysian indie duo, Herbal Candy. Each of the 10 artists had brought their DNA to the track and you can catch Yuna, along with all Levi’s® Music Project mentors in action as they review the submissions, share insider tips on music production as well as dish out nuggets of wisdom here.
