Have you ever been to a boutique hotel that made you feel so at ease, as if you’re still staying at home? We felt exactly that way during our visit a few weeks back to KLoé Hotel! It was such an eye-opening experience, and made us long to make up another excuse just to go back and experience their hospitality.
KLoé Hotel is an 8-storey tall, decade-old passion project of two film industry leaders-turned-hoteliers (power couple Ng Ping Ho and Cheryl Samad) with its roots at Bukit Bintang Street. Focusing on slow living and community ties, it's no wonder that KLoé Hotel has established itself as one of the up-and-coming boutique hotels in KL. Not to mention, they’ve even made the list on National Geographic’s The Hotel Awards as a runner-up under the best-value hotel category!
As someone who has had her fair share of staying in hotel chains locally and internationally, we can say that KLoé Hotel’s hospitality takes the cake as one of the best boutique hotels that you can find in Klang Valley. Read on for our review of the hotel!
Sit by the long table or pick a cosy seat by the window – no matter where you choose to sit in the Living Room, there’s no doubt the sense of community at the Living Room is palpable. Oftentimes, you’ll end up chatting with someone over coffee!
Small but well-kept, the Courtyard Pool is surrounded by lush greenery and has various lounge beds and chairs to chill by the poolside.
Lucky Coffee Bar was designed in a way whereby neighbours, office workers, and residents around the area can pop in to grab a cuppa. Serving up sandwiches and mean coffee, their Nitro Kopi Susu and the house-baked Almond Cake is a must-try!
Forget unassuming hotel coffee houses. Monroe is inspired by neighbourhood American diners where regulars can come by to order comfort food that makes everyone happy, and serves up American diner meals with a Malaysian twist. A must-try is their Torch Ginger Cooler!
We booked a 2D1N stay at their budget-friendly City room, and checked in after a long day exploring the city. The warmly-lit room was an inviting scene for us when we opened our room door – the polished oak wood floors felt familiar, as if we were walking around at home. We adored that the industrial look and feel of the room perfectly harmonises with the natural materials used, such as the leather straps on the metal bed frame, the unbleached bamboo tray that holds the fancy kettle, and the cement walls contrasting the wooden flooring.
If you’ve stayed at any DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, you’ll know that the brand is synonymous with the warm welcome cookies presented to hotel guests when they check-in. Usually, most hotels would just pass you a voucher and you would have to claim a welcome drink from the bar (some hotels don’t even bother with welcome drinks), so you would imagine our surprise and excitement when we received neatly packed cookies delivered right to our room. There’s also a fully-stocked, complimentary snack basket awaiting us, and it proved handy as we devoured all of the snacks in no time after freshening up.
The bathroom is consciously designed to be monochromatic chic and effortlessly modern. We truly appreciated that the shower has a powerful rainfall showerhead installed that gave us a head massage, and the Aēsop toiletries were the cherry on top! A quick Google search told us that the value of these toiletries was almost equivalent to the amount we paid for a night, and the scents made us smell amazing and refreshed. Suffice to say, KLoé Hotel has increased our expectations when it comes to toiletries – we can’t possibly be able to accept it when other hotels provide no-brand toiletries anymore!
Although we stayed in the City room, the Courtyard rooms aren't that different. Both rooms share a similar layout, with the Courtyard rooms having a view of the Courtyard Pool and an extra day bed in the room.
One of the most popular rooms as it’s super Instagrammable, the Room to Grow has one of the comfiest daybeds to lounge amidst this tropical greenhouse-turned-hotel-room. Perfect for plant parents or those who are trying to cultivate their green thumb, the room features terrariums by Ohsum Mossum, and concrete floors so you can plant, pot and water without worries.
Artists, this room’s for you! Clear your headspace and hunker down into creative mode at the Room to Draw which doubles as a cosy work studio envisioned by Joee Cheong. On top of this über-comfy room, you'll also have access to use their brushes, watercolour and acrylic paint, canvas and sketchbooks.
If you’ve watched Asian Food Network, chances are you’re familiar with celebrity chef Sarah Huang Benjamin’s cooking shows. The good people at KLoé Hotel teamed up with Sarah to curate Room to Taste, which is inspired by cosy dining rooms and sharing meals together. Staying in this room makes us think – why not choose to bungkus your dinner from a nearby restaurant and bring it back to be enjoyed within the comfort of your room that's equipped with a full-length dining table, silverware and handmade pottery pieces instead?
Groove to the soothing tunes in the Room to Listen’s vast array of vinyls that are tastefully curated by DJ Rudy La Faber who is the founder of Public School, a music collective. Fitted with a custom-made vinyl turntable sound system, you can sway to your beat of choice within this cosy haven!
Dive headfirst onto the daybed or reading chair and snuggle up with a new book in the Room to Read! With a bookshelf handpicked by Nazir Harith of Tintabudi, you can spend hours holed up in the room reading books of different genres. Not only does the Room to Read has a bookshelf that would make any bibliophile drool, there’s also a comfortable wooden desk for aspiring writers to put ink onto paper.
Why not opt to visit on a weekday when KL is less hectic? That’s what we did! You can utilise their 1+ 1 Weekday Getaway promo, where you can stay an extra night for free when you book their Courtyard rooms. On weekends, make use of their Weekend Deal promotion, where you’ll get 25% off your booking when you stay for 2 nights at their City or Courtyard rooms between Friday to Sunday.
Been itching to try out Monroe or Lucky Coffee Bar? Hotel guests can get 10% off your total bill when you dine in or takeaway on a la carte items during your stay, which we think is a pretty good deal!
It doesn’t matter if you’re a KL-ite or a Sarawakian that’s coming to town with your better half or with your small family – you should have KLoé Hotel on the top of your staycation bucket list!
True to their motto of ‘being kind to strangers’, we can vouch that KLoé Hotel’s hospitality and generosity go above and beyond with a personalised touch. Staying here is like being in a home away from home.
Come with an open mind – acknowledge that strangers are just friends we haven’t met, and take your time to unwind at this boutique hotel dedicated to KL’s creative community in the heart of the Golden Triangle.
